The Top 3 are from Ring?

You may have noticed that 3 are from the same company – Ring!  Albeit, all Ring’s video doorbells are different models yet it speaks volumes about the company in the wireless video doorbell market.

The best video doorbells don’t only let you see who’s knocking at the door, they allow you to see someone coming based on your zone setting. You don’t only see who’s approaching or knocking at your door, you can also talk to them from anywhere in the world with the two way audio and HD visual feature.

Using your smart phone from any remote location you be able to carry on a two way conversation and a one way visual, as you can see them but they can’t see you.  They won’t even know where you are unless you tell them.  So if you’re too busy to open the door or maybe out of town, you can still answer your door from your phone.

Video doorbells integrated automation also sports some nice safety features too.  Not only will you be notified when someone knocks on your door, you can set your notifications to alert you when someone enters the predesignated motion detection zone.

So if a “porch pirate” comes near your door, you can use your smart phone to scare them off, and even save the video to hand over to the authorities to further investigate.

Additionally, you can integrate your video doorbell into the app and control your motion detection smart lights too.

Our Top 5 wireless video doorbells can also link to other forms of home automation via the app and controlled or put on timer by you.  Meaning, if a family member is locked out of the house, you can link to your smart locks and open the door for them via your smart phone.

Smarthome Door Locks and Security

You can also control your thermostat, sprinkler system, lights and many more home appliances making home automation effortless all by the touch of a button from the app on your smart phone.

Which One is Best for you?

In the study of the Top 3 Best Video Doorbells Wireless, the top 3 are Ring models.  Personally, I started with the Ring Video Doorbell – original, then later upgraded to the Ring Video Doorbell 2 with HD.  Although I am very satisfied with my Ring 2, I have not had the desire to go beyond to the Pro because as I tested it, I felt that the Video Doorbell 2 was better in my opinion.

I have remained loyal to the Video Doorbell 2 mainly because I got really good at operating it, I had no issues, and it integrated fully into full home automation products.  It is just really smooth to operate and so easy to install myself.  I have the zones specifically set to the edge of my yard, which is within viewing distance.  I am notified when someone steps on to my property before they get to the door.  This allows me to make some decisions prior to someone getting to my door.

What about Nest Hello Smart Wifi Video Doorbell?

There are some who feel that Nest Hello Smart Wifi Video Doorbell is a great contender for the upper top 3, and it is a great product.  It has great video quality, facial recognition and can even announce whose at the door.  Being owned by Google, you can also view a live feed from the Nest Hello on Chromecast and it works well with Alexa.

One drawback is that Nest Hello has to be hardwired, so you’ll have to install it where there’s an existing doorbell, or run new wiring.  For me, and I have surveyed others with the same problem that I had with a wired product, I would have to have an electrician install wiring to have a wired product like Nest Hello.  That would be a disaster and added cost.

This would make my price of the project soar.  With Ring giving me the option to make it wired or wireless, it was the perfect decision for me and others alike.  You will also find that in order to participate in most of Nest Hello’s added features, you’ll need to at least subscribe to “Nest Aware.”  Nest Aware will cost you $5.00, $10.00 or $30.00 a month depending on the package you choose.

Ring Video Doorbell 2 was the Answer for Me

After careful thought and investigation into what I would be spending ($169.00) in comparison to what I would get from other products, I found Ring was the answer for me.  Plus, I like the success story surrounding Ring’s fame.

If you’re like me and don’t already have hard wires running to your doorbell, I recommend the Ring Video Doorbell 2. I wasn’t willing to spend an extra $500.00 for an electrician to run wires through my walls, seal and repaint.  Not for a doorbell anyways.  Thankfully, Ring has that option.

It can be hardwired, or operated with rechargeable batteries.  You do need to recharge the batteries every few months.  Ring 2 sports a high quality 1080 feed along with customization for motion zones to better suit your viewing and notification needs.

Once I got and used my Ring Video Doorbell 2, I thought that was it.  I soon learned that there was more.  It was just the beginning.  With Ring’s Smart Home Integration, I have added more home automation products, ie: smart locks, smart thermo, window and door sensors, motion detection (inside and out).  I add more and more as they come out.

General Information About the Video Doorbells by Ring

The following information will guide you through the process of making decisions about whether you will want a wired system vs a wireless one, how to place your video doorbell by Ring, and important information you will need to make informed decisions.

How to choose the best video doorbell

Wired vs. wireless

Depending on the age of your home, apartment or mobile home, you’ll want to keep in mind that Video doorbells usually require 16 volts or more to work. With the newer homes this won’t be an issue.  On the other hand, older homes equipped with lower voltages may not deliver enough power to run your equipment, meaning if you want a wired system you’ll have to spend money to upgrade your electricity.

The doorbells that have built-in rechargeable battery packs don’t require power from the doorbell at all. Video doorbells like the Ring Video Doorbell 2, can run on battery power and you have plenty of power before your system notifies you to recharge the battery (usually every few months or so).

This is incredibly helpful if your existing wiring isn’t getting the job done and you don’t want to upgrade the transformer. Just remember that you’ll have to recharge these units periodically.  This is helpful information to know when deciding on a wired vs wireless video doorbell product as upgrading your homes’ electrical can be quite expensive.

Doorbell placement

Your choice of doorbells will also depend on whether you’re replacing an existing doorbell or installing a doorbell where there isn’t one already. The Ring Video Doorbell 2 is the most flexible. While it can replace a hardwired doorbell supplying 8-24 volts of electricity, its rechargeable battery means you could put this doorbell anywhere. And the optional Ring Chime add-on can even sound an audible chime inside the house, just like a traditional doorbell would.

How Your Ring Video Doorbell Works

Ring Video Doorbell connects to your home Wi-Fi network and sends real-time notifications to your smart phone or tablet when someone is at your door. Using our free Ring App which is available for Apple, Android, and Windows 10 devices, you can see an HD Video stream of the person at your door and speak to them using two-way audio communication.  Ring Doorbell can alert you when someone presses the button on your doorbell or when motion is detected. Ring Doorbells operate on battery power or hooked up to your home doorbell wiring.

Zone Control & Field of View

With Ring, you can change or preset parameters for your zones or field of view on the video.  You may opt for a more narrow view of just the person at the door, or you may want to see everything around your entryway.  The Ring Video Doorbell 2 and Ring Pro are ideal with 160-degree viewing angles, which let me see my whole porch and driveway.

Video Resolution

Keep in mind, the higher the resolution, the sharper the image, which will make it easier to identify people at your door. Ring’s higher-end doorbells record video in 1080p and HD.

Aesthetics may be a concern. After all, you’re bolting this thing to the front of your house! The Ring Pro looks the most like a traditional doorbell, and Ring even includes four face plates, so you can choose which matches your house’s trim or paint one exactly the shade you like.

Fee’s Associated with Ring Devices

All Ring devices will operate without an additional fee or subscription. However, they offer optional Ring Video Recording Plans that cost a monthly or yearly subscription fee. Without Ring Video Recording, you will still receive alerts when visitors press your Doorbell or trigger the motion sensors in your device.

You’ll still get live streaming video and two-way audio, so you can see, hear and speak to guests in real-time, as an event is happening.  However, if you don’t have Ring Video Recording and you miss an alert or a live event, you will not be able to review the video.

Ring Video Recording will save all of your recordings to your Ring account for up to 60 days, and with Ring Video Recording, you can also review the videos, download them to local storage, and share them via social media, text and email.

There are two options for Ring Video Recording: Basic and Protect. Basic costs $3 per month or $30 for the year per device; Protect costs $10 per month or $100 for year, and it covers an unlimited amount of Ring cameras, offers a lifetime product warranty and gives you an additional 10% off future purchases at
